Strong in the Park started as a different way to move and get stronger – by doing it out outside in nature. During the covid lockdown Royal Marine Veteran, Matt Barlow, saw the need for people to come together, not only to improve their wellbeing through building strength but also building a community.
Strong in the Park has many people with varying goal and abilities; from the athlete who is looking to enhance their strength and cross-train for their sport; to the grandparent who is wanting to make sure they can play with their grandchildren; to the person with a medical condition who wants to improve their quality of life. Strong in the Park welcomes all.
Sessions are around 45 minutes long and it is recommended to do 2 sessions a week. In each session, Matt and his coaches will challenge the whole body in a safe and enjoyable environment. Studies have shown that strength and conditioning training improves bone density, enhances metabolism as well as sharpens balance and co-ordination. Invest in your body today to carry you through to tomorrow and beyond.
Get in touchOur sessions are outdoors all year round. This means you can get sunlight on your face even if sometimes with a few raindrops. Embracing the weather is all part of the experience. The benefits to exercising outside are improved sleep, boosted immunity and enhanced mood through social interaction with your session teammates.
From team events, Christmas social and friends in your teams you will meet local, like minded individuals who all embrace the outdoor strength pathway. We have all ages and abilities and you may end up growing your friend circle after a few sessions.
The programme is designed for 2 sessions per week so every session you will tax nearly every muscle group in your body. You will see progress over consistent training, there are many stories the community can give about how the strength has helped their every day lives. With over 20 years coaching experience the coaches will be able to adjust any session to get the most development for every member.
Even though you will be challenged there will still be breaks where you will chat to your team and get to know everyone a little bit better. Coaches DO NOT SHOUT and you will not be asked to run during the sessions, this is a skill that can be developed on the pathway but is not a necessity.
You are probably well aware of the benefits of consistent strength training. The guide lines are 2 sessions per week of a minimum of 30mins. This is what we deliver. Strong In The Park is the one stop shop for strength, increasing stamina, endurance, maximal strength and power in an easy to follow format.
With a whole body approach to every session you will experience; squats, hinges, lunges, presses, pulls twists and bracing during most workouts. Equipment varies most sessions along with repetitions, sets, recovery and the weather. You will work all your various energy systems and will experience something slightly different every time you attend.
Call NowThe advice is to come to a taster, if you cannot do 50% of the session then it is FREE. With clients from 14 – 83, age isn’t a factor. Long term health issues or injuries can be managed and have positive responses from a balances strength programme, therefore it isn’t a blocker either. This is the “nuts and bolts”, “meat and veggies” of strength programmes. It gives you a start and opportunity to build yourself in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Full-body means you get a full workout. Strong in the Park classes bring holistic fitness via compound workouts, meaning you get fit fast and in a well-rounded manner.
Join NowOur classes aim to drive positive bodies and mindsets. These are often embodied in improved mental and physical well-being, which can lead to better lifestyles away from the gym.
Join NowWe don’t mean a six pack or dropped a dress size. Sure, they happen, but we look to help achieve holistic goals related to balanced, well-rounded lifestyles.
Join NowEveryone should be able to move their bodies functionally and optimally. At this level, we concentrate on making sure you can do basic movements with minimal weight, perfect for people new to training with weights or are rehabilitating from injury. Basic movement patterns include squats, hip hinges, lunges, push, pull, rotation and forward travel.
After mastering the basic movement patterns, the weight is increased in these exercises. As the weight progressively increases, so does your strength.
The next step in your strength journey is to be able to move your own body. Here we will train pull-ups, crawls, sprints, chin-ups, etc.
This advanced level includes fireman carries, people drags, rope climbs, grappling, etc.
If you don’t want to move better, build strength and hang out in a park with awesome people we aren’t for you. If you don’t want to work on functional whole body movements, building a stable and strong body we aren’t for you. If you don’t like nature, fresh air and making friends with local people we aren’t for you. If you are still keen, just bring your phone, water, clothing and footwear appropriate to the weather and most importantly a smile.
